Digital Strategist
Cogent Strategies, a fast-growing, boutique, bi-partisan strategic communications, digital advocacy and government relations firm is seeking to hire a digital strategist to support the firm’s collaborative team and diverse client roster.

Cogent is looking for a go-getter with a can-do, proactive mindset who is always looking for ways to improve our output as well as that of our clients. The ideal candidate should have previous experience with digital marketing, advertising, branding and design, political campaigns and/or public affairs projects. Candidates should possess an understanding of data-driven strategies, knowledge of online/social conversation analysis and a creative eye for design and content. A sense of humor, entrepreneurial spirit and attention to detail are also important.

Highlights of the job are as follows:

  • Craft and execute digital and brand strategies for Cogent and Cogent clients.
  • Attend client and account team meetings, presents findings, gather information for projects and create presentations.
  • Develop ideas and tactics for social media and brand strategies, including content calendars, best practices and analysis.
  • Use data and analytics to inform and refine client strategies.
  • Author social media and online content, including cross-channel copy and ideas for accompanying images/media.
  • Manage digital advertising campaigns.
  • Maintain client websites and other online properties.
  • Support the firm’s business development process with digital insights, maintain the website and email program, and work on Cogent’s collateral and creative design.

Individuals interested in applying for the Digital Strategist position should excel at the following:

  • Capacity to execute campaigns on behalf of clients including messaging and collateral development, advertising/paid media and social media, and reporting. Understanding of client’s business, political and competitive landscape.
  • Skilled at understanding all social media platforms and relevant online platforms. Demonstrates social fluency and a basic understanding of how to drive conversation and engagement across all online channels. Proficient in conducting research to inform strategic direction, messaging and tactics. Ability to assist with analysis of traditional media, legislative analytics and online conversations
  • Provide campaign performance reporting and analysis internally and for clients, working with Google Analytics, social media analytics, and social media listening tools
  • Ability to develop design assets ranging from infographics, social media imagery, one-pagers and other client and firm collateral
  • Adept to lead all aspects of project activities including reporting, tracking and measurement of project hours
  • Experience with content tools such as WordPress or a similar system; experience with analytics or publishing tools such as Tableau, Google Analytics, buffer or Hootsuite

REQUIREMENTS 

·      Bachelor’s degree 
·      2-4 years of full-time experience in digital marketing, branding or advertising (digital experience required)

·      Professional knowledge of social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc.)
·      Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite
·      Excellent communication skills, both internal and client-facing

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION 

·      Prior firm/agency, marketing, Hill or campaign experience and/or internship

Public Relations and Digital Communications Associate

Cogent Strategies, a boutique, bi-partisan strategic communications, digital advocacy and government relations firm is seeking to hire a public relations and digital communications project manager who expresses a strong interest in supporting the firm’s collaborative team and its diverse client roster to achieve winning results and grow the business. The ideal candidate must have experience in writing, media, research and digital strategy and possess a sense of humor, entrepreneurial spirit and attention to detail. Qualifications for the position are as follows:

  • Capacity to execute campaigns on behalf of clients including messaging and collateral development, advertising/paid media and social media, and media outreach. Understanding of client’s business and competitive landscape.
  • Excels at strategic and persuasive writing; capable of developing creative written and visual content. Demonstrates writing excellence when crafting internal and client materials and correspondence.
  • Adept to lead all aspects of project activities including reporting, tracking and measurement of project hours.
  • Ability to create opportunities to position issues leveraging the full spectrum of communications and engagement channels and tactics.
  • Proficient in conducting research to inform strategic direction, messaging and media outreach. Assist with analysis of traditional media and online conversations.
  • Possess a strong eye for detail and quality control of ideas, client correspondence and plans, and media materials.
  • Ability to manage the execution of client-sponsored events from congressional briefings to potential trade shows. Willingness to lead strategy, planning, coordination and management of the event including vendor management, budget management and onsite execution and support.
  • Skilled at or interested in understanding all social media platforms and relevant media outlets. Demonstrates social fluency and a basic understanding of how to drive conversation and engagement across all social channels.
  • Experience with content tools such as WordPress or a similar system; experience with analytics or publishing tools such as Google Analytics, buffer or Hootsuite preferred but not required.
  • Works well in a collaborative team environment. Provides support for every aspect of designated accounts and works closely with teammates to deliver results.
  • Capability to keep lines of communication open regarding all client projects (proactively report out on current projects without being asked about status).

Public Relations Intern

Job Opening: Full or part-time spring internship

Experience Level: Enrolled undergraduate juniors, seniors, and/or candidates that have obtained a Bachelor’s degree within the past 12 months

Internship Program Components:

  • The typical work week will consist of 32-40 total hours (4-5 full days)

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Draft and help manage the distribution of client communications, including newsletters, website and social media channels
  • Create client-specific media lists
  • Develop effective messages and produce and edit high-quality written deliverables, such as issue backgrounders, press materials, messaging toolkits and social media content often under tight deadlines
  • Assist with other projects as needed (examples include information tracking, research projects, daily clips, congressional hearing coverage, etc.)

Basic Qualifications:

  • Self-starter and detail-oriented individual with strong communication, interpersonal, research and organizational skills
  • Strong content writing skills are critical
  • Communications internship on Capitol Hill or a political campaign is a plus

Government Relations and International Affairs Intern

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Cover congressional hearings and summarize relevant discussion topics in high-quality, client-facing form
  • Monitor and track legislative bills, hearing schedules, and federal rulemaking
  • Conduct legislative research
  • Engage with the government relations team and generate client strategies
  • Draft, review and edit documents and written materials
  • Utilize and update various databases

Basic Qualifications:

  • Self-starter and detail-oriented individual with strong communication, interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Familiarity with both houses of Congress and departments and agencies within the executive branch
  • Strong writing and research skills are critical
  • Internship on Capitol Hill, government agency, think tank, or a political campaign is a plus
  • Ability to synthesize and summarize large amounts of information in a cohesive and timely manner
  • Broad knowledge base of international affairs and foreign policy is a plus
